Manchester City vs. Real Madrid

Last night I made my way to the Etihad Stadium once again, to photograph Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League (Group D) match against Real Madrid. Following another poor run of form in Europe, it was a match that City had to win in order to stand any chance of making it through to the knockout stages. Although the majority of photographers present were disappointed to see Madrid opting to play in their change strip of dark green rather than their traditional white, they made up for it with the squad of players coach Jose Mourinho selected to play, which included their star striker, Cristiano Ronaldo. Returning to Manchester for the first time since leaving City’s rivals, United, a few years back, his presence was certain to add some spice to the atmosphere…

Madrid looked firmly in control of the match, and took the lead early on through Karim Benzema. City equalised later with a penalty from Sergio Aguero, but the score finished 1-1, and City were consequently eliminated from the competition in the group stages for the second time in successive years.
