The French Revolution

The January transfer window typically attracts a lesser tier of players to the Premier League. Rarely do you hear of an in-demand player who won’t be cup-tied between teams in the Champions League or Europa League becoming available for transfer at the halfway point in the season; it tends to serve more of a purpose to those clubs looking to plug gaps in their squads caused by injury or international commitments. However, this year, Newcastle United seemed determined to enhance their squad more than anyone, adding a total of six new players to their books, most of them either French, or French-speaking.

As an agency with a number of French interests, Offside had to be all over this. Unfortunately though, I knew this would mean the start of what I expect to be a long second half to the season travelling up and down to the north east. As it happens, Newcastle’s first match since the arrival of the French contingent was away at Aston Villa, and they even had the decency to wear their home kit…

Nice of the French newcastle players to line up together on the pitch for you.

    1. That it was…I got them coming out of the tunnel together, lining up together, coming out for the 2nd half together…very helpful of them!
