Desperate Times

The weekend following my trip to Wembley took me to two matches that both meant a lot to the teams involved, but all for extremely different reasons.

Manchester United were away to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday; the visitors in dire need of a win (and a convincing one at that) to relieve some of the pressure on manager David Moyes, while the home side are still looking for their first victory under new manager Pepe Mel, who arrived to a fanfare but has since delivered nothing but disappointment.

Then on Sunday, I was assigned the delights of Blackburn Rovers vs. Burnley, a clash between two of Lancashire’s biggest rivals. To say the fans of either side don’t get on would be a minor understatement. Saying they despise each other might be closer to the mark…
